The L.I.G was formed in Brooklyn’s Bed-Stuy in 2005. Bassist, Errol Williamson and Percussionist/ Lyricist, Eric Parker, joined forces with Keyboardist, Al Dacary to form a collective that honed in on the styling’s of 70’s Funk music, (a period that has defined today’s genres and cultures) and captured the very essence of its roots and originality.

Drummer/Percussionist/Lyricist: Eric Parker
Better known as “The Chief Rocker”, Eric was raised in Brooklyn and Queens, New York. As a result he had access to all the sounds New York had to offer. With the heavy influences of James Brown, Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones, “The Chief Rocker” set out to funk the world.

Bassist: Errol Williamson
Errol came to New York via London Town, UK. Growing up with a Caribbean background, Errol was exposed to a tradition of Calypso and Reggae. He is also an admirer of New York’s CBGB’s and It cannot be ignored that these influences have added to an “Explosive” style that has made him a most sought after bass player.

Keyboardist/Vocalist: Al Dacary
Mr. Dacary comes to New York by way of North Carolina. Coming up in the church, he was influenced by the good consciousness and spirit of Gospel music. He has written, produced and performed music from New York to North Carolina, from Gospel to Hip Hop, making Mr. Dacary is an innovator and influence for many musicians.

Guitarist/Vocalist: Durand Daniel
Mr. Daniel came aboard the “Mother Ship” in 2007 when he saw the band perform for the NYC Marathon. Born in Los Angeles and being raised in New York provided Mr. Daniel with a multicultural musical background. With roots in Afro Carib Music, New Orleans and the Mississippi Delta, Mr. Daniel is indeed a versatile musician.

The four elements of Guitar, Bass, Keyboard and Drums makes for one of the tightest rhythm sections one would want to hear. Combined with the harmonic vocals to give the band an overall “Good-Spired”, Wholesome, and Uplifting vibe that attracts all people!

To celebrate their 20th Anniversary this Columbus Day Weekend, October 7-9, Five Spot Soul Food Restaurant presents the opening of their sister venue Armstead Exchange.

Located at 154A Washington Avenue, Brooklyn, just down the block from Five Spot. both venues will dedicate their stage and alternative space to "The Future", inspiring young entrepreneurs and emerging artists to see their passions through just as Five Spot owner Malik Armstead did.

"The Future" is an inspiring marriage of art and entrepreneurship and serves as an incubator of the exchange of ideas between artists and the public. Five Spot will feature an array of music, spoken word, stand-up comedy, and DJ performances in addition to screening films on the walls. The alternative space, Armstead Exchange, is a former parking garage, an L-shaped, 3,000sqft industrial beauty, turned multipurpose venue. In the past, they have housed both art exhibitions and small markets. For their anniversary, Armstead Exchange will combine both ideas, housing a diverse and curated exhibition of art alongside vendor booths in addition to games and activities like face painting. A lineup of DJ's will perform live in front of the Armstead Exchange to draw in the crowd.

After 11 PM, the celebration carries on at The Five Spot for an after party each night. The grand opening event kicks off this Friday October 7th at 5pm! Come join in the fun! The schedule of activities is listed below:

Fri Oct. 7 (opening event): 5-11PM + After party
